Canvas | Upload and embed teaching/learning materials (EN)

To make teaching/learning materials available in Canvas, it is recommended that you first upload the respective file and then embed it on the relevant course page.

Information

File Upload

  1. To upload teaching/learning materials, click on Files in the Canvas course menu.

  2. In the file overview that now appears, you can create a new folder by clicking on the "Folder" button.

  3. Alternatively, you can select and upload a file directly by clicking on "Upload".

  4. If required, the storage location can be adjusted using drag & drop or by clicking on the three dots next to the relevant file or folder.

To ensure that the UWK templates are displayed correctly, the availability of all folders that already exist in the course after creation must be set to Only available with link.

Change the display option of a file

  1. To change how a file is displayed on a course page, click on the file’s link shown in the editor. A pop up menu gives you the option Link Options.

  2. In the side panel on the right handside, you can cange the link’s name as well as the display option. These include:

    • Disable Preview: The file will not be displayed but it’s clickable link. When clicking on it, the file will be downloaded.

    • Preview in overlay: The file will be displayed as a clickable link. When clicking on it, the file itself will be displayed in a pop up that lays over the course page.

    • Preview inline: The file itself is embedded within the course page and displayed directly where the link is positioned. The option Expand preview by Default allows to display all pages of the document by default. Otherwise, it would require scrolling to see the whole file.
